The parcel service providers DPD and Hermes announced on 8 February 2022 that they will scale back the activities of their joint venture ParcelLock in the course of the year and later discontinue it. Currently, the discontinuation is scheduled for 31 July. The ParcelLock system for contactless receipt of parcels is used in parcel boxes from various manufacturers, including BURG-WÄCHTER.
Solution available for existing ParcelLock systems
BURG-WÄCHTER has ensured that owners of our parcel boxes with ParcelLock system can continue to use them even after they have been discontinued. After a software update, user codes can be issued to the respective parcel services and parcels can continue to be received. The software update is automatically implemented in the secuENTRY Key app from BURG-WÄCHTER. Use the app to transfer the software to your BURG-WÄCHTER parcel box with ParcelLock system.
"It was important for us to find such a solution in the interest of our customers. Because this means that the parcel box can continue to receive items from all parcel services," says Gerrit Lüling, General Sales Manager at BURG-WÄCHTER. The production of parcel boxes with ParcelLock system has already been discontinued by BURG-WÄCHTER.
eBoxx EASY+ as a modern alternative
With the eBoxx EASY+, BURG-WÄCHTER has been offering a smart, self-developed, electronic parcel box system for single and multi-family homes as well as companies since last year. The parcel box can be set up at the desired location, a power connection is not necessary. The parcel box can be delivered by all parcel services and other deliverers; multiple deliveries are also possible. The user decides who may deposit a parcel in the eBoxx EASY+.
Finally, BURG-WÄCHTER would like to emphasise that it was surprised by the discontinuation of ParcelLock itself. BURG-WÄCHTER learned of the decision from the media and was not communicated in advance.
